The Breath of LIFE

I had this thought the other night while lying in bed unable to sleep, and it was almost like a light bulb appeared over my head. Maybe you've already thought of this and it's not a new thought to you, but to me it was amazing.

The Bible says in Genesis 2:7 "The Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul."

Now most of us probably know that verse, and it's not such a powerful thought anymore, we're used to the idea that God made us, right? But what made it super eye opening to me was the realization that that is why our words are so dang powerful! Our breath has LIFE in it. God breathed into us the breath of LIFE.

That's why encouraging, kind words can help even the plants to grow! We have such an impact on what we say and how we choose to say it and we treat it so carelessly!

Proverbs is full of verses explaining how we should and should not talk to people. It must be very important to God if He keeps repeating things about it to get it into our thick skulls.

Some such verses are:

Proverbs 4:24 "Put away from thee a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee."

Proverbs 10:21 "The lips of the righteous feed many."

Proverbs 10:28 "The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable."

Proverbs 12:13 "The wicked is snared by the transgression of his lips."

Proverbs 12:18 "There is that speaketh like the piercings of a sword: but the tongue of the wise is health."

Proverbs 12:22-23 "Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord: but they that deal truly are His delight. A prudent man concealeth knowledge: but the heart of fools proclaimeth foolishness."

Proverbs 12:25 "Heaviness in the heart of man maketh it stoop: but a good word maketh it glad."

Proverbs 13:2-3 "A man shall eat good by the fruit of his mouth: but the soul of the transgressors shall eat violence. He that keepeth his mouth keepeth his life: but he that openeth wide his lips shall have destruction."

And so, so many more!

But WOW! The words we choose to say and how we say them, to those around us, can make all the difference. Especially to our sweet children. They are looking to us to teach them, and they will learn by our example. But also, what we choose to say to them will either build them up or tear them down. What a responsibility we have as children of God to speak highly of each other, in kindness, fondness and love. I know this is a short blog post but I just wanted to put that thought out there for you today. Let's speak LIFE to each other!

I challenge you to find someone to encourage this week! Whether that's sending a note, or giving a quick phone call, just reach out and encourage and speak life into that person.
